Alabama freshman forward Jeff Garrett is expected to miss at least six to eight weeks after undergoing surgery for a fractured foot, coach Anthony Grant announced Wednesday.

Garrett, who is redshirting this season, was seen using a knee scooter on the court before last Saturday’s 70-48 home loss against No. 1 Kentucky to support a foot donning a walking boot. Grant didn’t specify how or when the injury occurred.

A unanimous three-star prospect coming out of high school, Garrett was the fourth signee in Alabama’s 2014 recruiting class behind Justin Coleman, Devin Mitchell and Riley Norris. Though originally from Gadsden, Garrett spent his senior year of high school at Oldsmar Christian in Oldsmar, Florida, where he averaged 18.3 points and 10.1 rebounds per game.

In a statement put out prior to the Southern Miss game on Nov. 20, Grant announced his intentions to redshirt Garrett.

“Jeff and I met and decided he will redshirt this season,” the release read. “We feel it is the best thing for him from a long-term standpoint. It will give him the opportunity to grow and develop as a player and a student. We feel Jeff has an outstanding future ahead of him.”

Grant also provided an update on guard Ricky Tarrant, saying the junior was "better." Tarrant sustained an undisclosed lower leg injury against South Carolina last week that forced him to come off the bench in a limited role against the Wildcats.
