John Metchie III Rewarded NFLPA Community MVP for Week 5
Former Alabama Crimson Tide and current Houston Texans wide receiver John Metchie III was diagnosed with Leukemia back in July, preventing him from partaking in the 2022-23 NFL season. While Metchie was expected to make a huge impact on the field before his unfortunate announcement, he has gone on to show that his contributions to the fans goes way beyond the game of football.
This week, John Metchie III decided to take some of the nurses and patients from his "hospital family" on a tour of NRG Stadium in Houston, Texas. The group got to stop and take photos, received several gifts from Metchie, and even had dinner together.
The NFLPA will donate $10,000 to a charity of Metchie's choice. He stated that “No matter what situation you’re in, how down you are or up you are, it’s always a blessing to be able to be a blessing to somebody else.”
John Metchie III will also be eligible for the Alan Page Community Award at the end of the season.
