Josh Wright, TA Head Coach, joins the Gary Harris Show
It's hard to believe, but the high school football season is fast approaching in Alabama. One of the most interesting things that happens during the offseason is the so called "coaching carousel" that occurs. One team that has a new head coach is Tuscaloosa Academy.
Last year Tuscaloosa Academy went 2-8 overall. This past offseason, they hired Josh Wright from Bessemer Academy. The team is looking to improve this year, amongst the everchanging landscape that is high school football.
Joining the Gary Harris Show to discuss why he took the TA job, Coach Wright said "Well I've been living in Tuscaloosa for the last 17 years...you know it was just the right time in my life with my family...the opportunity presented itself it just felt right."
Tuscaloosa Academy and Bessemer Academy are rivals, and with Coach Wright leaving Bessemer Academy for Tuscaloosa Academy, the intensity has certainly been increased between these two schools.
Coach Wright reflected on his time at Bessemer, but was looking forward to working with TA. " Great times at Bessemer, kind of tough being your rival now leaving like that...we're excited here at TA and I think we can build something special."
The Knights also earned praise for Coach Wright, saying the team has improved in his short coaching tenure so far. "Well we've gotten a lot stronger in the offseason...but we're still young, we've got six seniors, which all those seniors have been great kids, they're great leaders...you know we're getting better every day, we just got to build depth and stay healthy."
The Knights will kick off the 2021 campaign against the Autauga Academy Generals August 19th.
