Thomas opened up the tournament struggling to find a groove. He shot 71 on Thursday and 71 on Friday just making the cut by three strokes. Moving day on Saturday was met with a 64 by the Louisville native which put him to within three strokes of the lead. Thomas showed up Sunday still dialed in and was able to hold off Lee Westwood and Bryson Dechambeau to win his first career Players Championship.

It was a good moment for the Thomas family on Sunday watching Justin hoist the Players Championship trophy after his grandfather had passed away just a few weeks prior.

“I wish I could talk to him, but I know he’s watching,” Thomas said in tears after the win.

Thomas will be back in action two weeks at the WGC Match Play Invitational before preparing for The Masters which will be played April 8-11 this year. With a PGA Championship and a Players Championship, the green jacket at Augusta has got to be next on the career agenda for Thomas.

JT is one of the most decorated athletes to ever come out of Alabama. A national champion in college, Thomas also won the Haskins award as a freshman in 2012 which is an award given to the nation’s most outstanding collegiate golfer.
