TUSCALOOSA, Ala. —Alabama will kick off a five-game gauntlet on Saturday against Mississippi State as they embark on a stretch of four ranked opponents in five games. The Bulldogs are led by quarterback Kamario Taylor, who is one of the Heisman favorites through a third of the season and who Alabama defensive coordinator Kane Wommack had high praise for.

“He may be the best that we have faced in the last three years since I've been here,” Wommack said. “Just his ability to create explosives in the passing game, finding throws in the RPO game, the off-schedule plays that he makes.”

Thus far this year, Taylor has thrown for 1,192 yards, 14 touchdown passes, a 69.2% completion rate, a 187.5 passer rating, and just two interceptions. He has also rushed for 185 yards with a pair of touchdowns on the ground.

“Not only with his feet in the run game, but he also does a great job of keeping his eyes downfield and creating explosive passes through extending plays with his feet as well,” Wommack said.

The sophomore Taylor stands at 6-foot-4, 230 pounds and has been showing off his dual-threat abilities and elite arm talent in the first four weeks. He leads the SEC in explosive plays at 20 and has led the Bulldogs to have the second-best passing attack in the conference so far.

“I think he is already operating as an elite quarterback, you know, in the SEC. I mean, he does such a great job, I mean, in the deep routes,” Wommack said. “He's got great touch, leads his receiving core out there, which is a very, very fast group.”

Taylor will be going toe to toe with Crimson Tide quarterback Keelon Russell, who has a strong relationship.

“That’s my guy. We hit each other up almost every day. Love him to death,” Russell said of Taylor. “He’s a great player. Everybody knows of him. I can’t wait to get after it next week with him.”
