Lewis Jr. Announces Intentions
Alabama Head Coach Nate Oats said in his conference call with the media this week that he is expecting Kira Lewis Jr. and John Petty Jr. to enter their names into the NBA Draft. Today Lewis Jr. confirmed those intentions on social media.
Lewis Jr. will not hire an agent so he is eligible to decide to return to Alabama but he is projected as a mid-first to second round draft pick. The sophomore point guard averaged 18.5 points per game, 5.2 assists per game, 4.8 rebounds per game and shot 80% from the free-throw line this past season. Lewis Jr. started in all 65 games he played in over his two-year career at the Capstone.
Lewis Jr. earned First-team All-SEC in 2020, and SEC All-Freshman team in 2019. He reclassified out of Hazel Green High School into the 2018 recruiting class. He was the youngest player in college basketball in the 2019 season. Lewis Jr. was a four-star recruit according to 247Sports.
Lewis Jr. represented Team USA in the FIBA Under-19 World Cup in the summer of 2019. He won a Gold Medal with Team USA in that competition.
June 10, 2020 is the deadline for Lewis Jr. to decide if he will stay in the NBA Draft or withdraw his name and return to school should the NBA schedule not change due to the COVID-19 coronavirus and he decide to go through the entire process without an agent.
