No. 2 Seed Auburn Upset By Miami in Second Round
After putting together one of its most successful regular-season teams in program history, two-seeded Auburn gets upset in just the second round of the 2022 NCAA March Madness tournament by ten-seed Miami, 79-61.
The Tigers finished the high expectation-ridden 2021-2022 season 28-6 overall with a conference-leading 15-3 record against SEC opponents. Head coach Bruce Pearl won SEC Coach of the Year with Auburn center Walker Kessler winning Defensive Player of the Year and forward Jabari Smith winning Freshman of the Year.
During the course of the season, Auburn earned its first No.1 top-25 ranking in program history, a positive sign for efforts past the regular season. However, Auburn's downfall clearly started towards the end of the schedule, dropping a combined five of its six losses games in February and March alone.
Auburn finishes postseason play 1-2 overall, collecting a win over Jacksonville State in the opening round of the NCAA tournament.
Pearl and the Tigers went 2-0 against rival Alabama in 2022, bringing his lifetime record to 9-8 over the Crimson Tide.
