Photos: The No. 1 Alabama Crimson Tide Crushes The Mercer Bears In Bryant-Denny Season Opener
The No. 1 Alabama Crimson Tide welcomed fans back into Bryant-Denny Stadium at full capacity for the first time since 2019 and put on a sleepy, yet dominant, performance against the Mercer Bears. The Tide went 3&out in consecutive possessions causing concern over focus levels but Alabama got things on track en route to a 48-14 victory.
The Crimson Tide was dazzled by sophomore running back Jase McClellan as he stood out against an inferior opponent. McClellan scored touchdowns in three different ways to lift the Tide over the Bears. McClellan was helped on offense by super senior Brian Robinson, the Hillcrest High School alum led the Tide in rushing.
While Alabama has a lot to be pleased with the Tide always has room to improve, Nick Saban surely showed his team, "The Good, The Bad and The Ugly" from this past week's ball game and undoubtedly the penalties are a focus for the team.
Coach Saban updated the status of outside linebacker Will Anderson and called him, "day-to-day" after leaving the game early. He also congratulated the six Crimson Tide players honored for their efforts in the three phases of the game. It was the first time Kool-Aid McKinstry was named a Player of the Game in part because of his first career interception.
