It is high school football playoff season in Alabama, and we have a rematch from last years class 1A semifinals between Pickens County High School (7-3, 7-1) and Wadley High School (6-4, 5-1). Last year Wadley took the victory 41-36 placing the team in the finals against Sweet Water High School, where Wadley lost 40-16.

Pickens County finished second in the region five standings behind Lynn High School. The Tornados started its season off with a loss to Aliceville High School before going on a four game winning streak, losing only two more games the rest of the season.

Pickens County is no stranger to the playoffs making their 17th consecutive playoff appearance Friday. The Tornados have a 21-9 record in the first round of the playoffs with its last loss in the first round coming from Flomaton High School back in 2014.

Pickens County wants to continue its first round win streak and to avenge the loss to Wadley last year.

Wadley had a rough start to its season, winning only two of the team's first six games of the season before finishing the season on a four game winning streak. The Bulldogs won five of its six regional games, placing the group third in the region six standings.

Friday will be Wadley's tenth consecutive playoff appearance and its 30th total appearance. The Bulldogs have a first round record of 16-14 and only making the state championship once, which was the appearance last year.

The semifinal rematch from last year between Pickens County and Wadley will be played at G.S. Spruill Stadium in Reform, Alabama. Kickoff will be at 7 p.m. CST.
