‘Rings Over Lambos’ Alabama Hosts “Pancake Honcho” Samson Okunlola For Official Visit
The Alabama Crimson Tide football program is currently grinding the summer away, bringing in the nation's top talent for recruiting visits as the Tide closes in on the 2023 class.
One of the biggest, literally, players to visit The Capstone this past weekend was 5-star offensive tackle Samson Okunlola. The 6-foot-5, 305 pound prospect out of Brockton, MA., is considered the No. 3 tackle in the class and the No. 1 overall player in the state of Massachusetts by the 247Sports Composite.
Okunlola was hosted by current Crimson Tide tackle Tyler Booker and the pair got very creative during the photoshoot portion of his visit. The lineman out of Thayer Academy is nicknamed "Pancake Honcho". Okunlola took a stack of pancakes and poured syrup over them. Knocking down an opposing defender is often referred to as a pancake block.
Booker took videos of Okunlola as he tried on some of Alabama's most recent championship rings. Booker, just an incoming freshman can be heard in the video saying, "we don't have Lambo's but we've got a lot of these (rings)."
Booker's comments can likely be taken as a small shot at the University of Texas. Longhorns running back Bijan Robinson recently announced an NIL partnership with Lamborghini. While the car company specializes in top-notch luxury cars and Robinson will spend the season driving one of its latest model, the Texas program has been struggling, winning its last Big 12 championship in 2009.
Or perhaps the comments were in jest towards Michigan State, who recently put out recruiting photos featuring one of the luxury vehicles.
He comes from an athletic family as his older brother Samuel signed with the Pittsburgh Panthers in the class of 2022.
Football isn't the only sport that he's excelled in while in high school. The massive tackle won the New England ISL (Independent Sports league) wrestling title as a junior and he competed in shotput and discuss throw as a freshman.
Okunlola took a visit to Michigan State earlier in the month and plans to visit the University of Miami next week as his recruitment heats up.
Perhaps Okunlola can sign a future NIL deal with popular Tuscaloosa breakfast restaurant "Waysider" for all his pancake needs at The Capstone.
