Now, reports are stating that the seven-time national champion has reached out to a familiar face.

According to CBS Sports' Dennis Dodd, Saban has contacted former Alabama staffer Jeremy Pruitt about the open job.

"Alabama coach Nick Saban has reached out to former Tennessee coach Jeremy Pruitt regarding the Crimson Tide's vacant defensive coordinator position, sources tell CBS Sports. It is believed no offer has been made at this time, and Alabama would not speak on Pruitt's candidacy when contacted for comment," wrote Dodd.

The Ala., native has had multiple stints with the Crimson Tide, including as a graduate assistant (1997), director of player development (2007-09), defensive backs coach (2010-12), and defensive coordinator/inside linebackers coach (2016-17).

Most recently, Pruitt served as the head coach of the Tennessee Volunteers from 2018-20 where he went 16-19 overall and the senior defensive assistant for the New York Giants (2021).

Pruitt is currently under investigation by the NCAA after being accused of 18 violations during his time at Rocky Top.

The 48-year-old seems to be the best fit for the job, a candidate that knows Saban's system well and is a veteran on the defensive side of the ball, however it is still to be determined if the allegations against him would prevent Pruitt from being able to take the gig. jeremy pruitt
