Saraland Star QB to Visit Alabama for Iron Bowl
KJ Lacey, the star quarterback of Saraland High School in the Mobile Bay area, has announced that he will be visiting Alabama for the Iron Bowl on Saturday.
Lacey visited Tuscaloosa in an unofficial capacity in April.
Lacey is credited by MaxPreps with a 65.9% completion rate, 2,885 passing yards, and 41 total touchdowns (37 passing, 4 rushing) on the season. His play has helped push his team to the AHSAA 6A semi finals.
His play has also helped out one of his teammates quite a bit. His favorite target, wide receiver Ryan Williams, is rated as a five star recruit and is currently the lone commit in the Crimson Tide's 2025 class.
When Saraland came to Hillcrest High School for the second round of the playoffs, the pair balled out. Williams hauled in a 68-yard dime from Lacey on the opening play from scrimmage in addition to finding him on an 84-yard catch-and-run a handful of drives later. Neither of those plays happen without Lacey hitting Williams in stride beautifully.
Lacey is currently unrated by 247 Sports and On3, but finishing the season with a state championship win and a visit to Alabama could change that rapidly.
Alabama currently has two quarterbacks in its 2023 class in four-stars Eli Holstein and Dylan Lonergan plus 2024 five-star Julian Sayin, but a crowded quarterback room in Tuscaloosa has worked out to the benefit of both the program and the players before. Just ask Jalen Hurts, Tua Tagovailoa, and Mac Jones whether iron sharpens iron.
Per Lacey following he and his offensive teammates' drumming of a very good Hillcrest defense, current Alabama quarterback Bryce Young is someone he models his game after.
Lacey is just a sophomore. He currently stands at 6'1" 175 pounds but could potentially get taller and certainly has time to fill out his frame. Couple that with two more years of developing and refining his craft at the high school level, the 2025 prospect could end up being a very dangerous player and earn himself a scholarship to the same school his favorite target has committed to.
