Tuscaloosa was all set to host the spring SEC championships in softball and women's tennis this spring before the NCAA and SEC cancelled the athletic season due to the COVID-19 coronavirus. The Rhoads Stadium was renovated recently, specifically to host the conference tournament.

There was some speculation that due to the cancellations that the two events might take several years to be rescheduled, The SEC offices announced today that all cancelled events from 2020 will take place in the same location in 2021.

The 2021 SEC softball tournament will be held in Tuscaloosa at Rhoads Stadium and the women's tennis tournament will be held at the Roberta Alison Baumgardner Tennis Facility right next door. This spells good news for the city of Tuscaloosa and for the respective programs. The city will have an opportunity to recoup some of the revenue lost for the cancellation and the teams will have an opportunity to win a conference championship in their home facilities.

Head softball coach Patrick Murphy had made it a point of pride to sell out the SEC tournament and at the time of the cancellation the event was nearly sold out. Its safe to say there will be even more buzz for the event when it comes back around in 2021.
