The road to the national title is not an easy journey.

Teams from all over the country wait anxiously as 12 committee members decide their fate each and every week. Winning is the key to survival, but that's never easy in the SEC.

The unpredictability of the conference was on full display last Saturday, and showed us just how hard it is to survive. Just in case you missed anything, here is a recap of the events:

  • No. 3 Auburn lived to see another Saturday after a gruesome leg injury caused Ole Miss wide receiver Laquon Treadwell to fumble the ball as he was crossing the goal line. The fumble helped the Tigers cap off a 35-31 win.
  • Will Muschamp may have resurrected his career at Florida with a 38-20 victory over No. 11 Georgia. The Gators ran for over 400 yards and only attempted six passes in the game.
  • For the third time this season, Arkansas narrowly lost to a top 10 as the Razorbacks fell to No. 1 Mississippi State 17-10.
  • Texas A&M almost saw their season hit rock bottom as they edged out Louisiana Monroe 21-16.

With the East division being in shambles, it is up to one (or two?) of the mighty West teams - Mississippi State, Auburn, Alabama - to represent the SEC in the inaugural playoff. It will not be the most exciting weekend of football in the conference, but rest assured there will be plenty of drama.

  • Presbyterian at #11 Ole Miss

11:00 am CT on the SEC Network

In today's world of college football, we live by the motto "expect the unexpected." Well, you can forget about that motto in this matchup. Ole Miss may be on a two game losing streak, but they are still one of the best teams in the country. The Rebels just have too much all-around talent for Presbyterian to compete with. The only thing you should expect in this one is a blowout.

In order to be fair, we will not completely rule out Presbyterian's chances of performing a miracle, but it'll take just that. They can call it a personal victory if they even put up double digits on this Rebels, or Landsharks, defense.

  • #20 Georgia at Kentucky

    11:00 am CT on ESPN

Georgia will travel to Lexington hoping to put last weekend's terrible performance behind them. Running back Nick Chubb was unable to move the ball effectively, and the Bulldogs looked like lost puppies without their ground game. Huston Mason was forced to pass a season high 41 times. Meanwhile, Florida only had six pass attempts and racked up over 400 yards rushing. Georgia may find difficulty stopping Kentucky's balanced attack.

Of course, the Wildcats will need to be efficient on offense. Quarterback Patrick Towles is often times under appreciated, but his inconsistent play is to blame for that. If Towles and the rest of the Wildcats offense will be a force to be reckoned with if they find their rhythm early. As for the defense, Kentucky just needs to stop Chubb. Huston Mason has not yet proven that he can capitalize on scoring opportunities, so the Wildcats have to force him to throw.

The outcome of this game depends on which Georgia team shows up. Kentucky is hungry for a sixth win and bowl eligibility so you can expect their best effort at home on Saturday.

  • Texas A&M at #3 Auburn

    2:30 pm CT on CBS

Auburn got their biggest win of the season last weekend in Oxford. Now they just have to survive road games at Alabama and Georgia and a home matchup this weekend against Texas A&M. The Tigers should have no problem running and throwing the ball against one of the worst defenses in the country. In an extremely rare circumstance, the defense may have problems against A&M's true freshman quarterback Kyle Allen.

Allen likely would have gotten the start with or without Kenny Hill's two game suspension. The Aggies have quickly fallen apart since their 59-0 loss to Alabama a few weeks ago. Kevin Sumlin relies heavily on his offense to score points and make big plays, and neither one of those things are happening right now. However, A&M cannot even begin to think about pulling the upset unless they stop Auburn's ground game.

A couple of weeks ago, we would have told you that the scoreboard would light up if these two offenses squared off. It appears only one side will roll up a big number. But it is worth mentioning that Kevin Sumlin coaches best when his team is an underdog.

  • Tennessee Martin at #1 Mississippi State

3:00 pm CT on the SEC Network

Mississippi State has struggled with the challenges of being the No.1 team in the country, but they have managed to win the battle in the trenches each week. This Saturday will be more of a breather than a battle because it's a break from the SEC schedule. This one will be fun to watch if you want to see Dak Prescott put on a show.

Maybe we should give Tennessee-Martin a little more credit, but do you really think that Mississippi State will drop their first game to an FCS school? We will give the Skyhawks the benefit of the doubt and say that they may score a few times against a struggling Bulldog defense.

  • Florida at Vanderbilt

6:30 pm CT on the SEC Network

It appeared that all hope for Florida had been lost after they dropped back-to-back conference games. Saturday's win over arch-rival Georgia brought life back into this program, and Will Muschamp kept his job for at least another week. Now they just have to build off this big win, which means keeping Treon Harris at quarterback. He has yet to prove he can throw, but as long as the ground game flourishes, he will not need to.

Florida was not the only SEC East team to get a big win. Vanderbilt nabbed a nice win over Old Dominion. The victory may not even be the best news for the Commodores. It appears that they have finally established a quarterback in Johnny McCrary, who was awarded SEC Freshman of the Week. Of course, playing against an SEC defense is a brand new challenge.

Both teams have seen their fair share of struggles, but Florida's issues seem pointless in comparison to Vanderbilt. The Commodores may keep it close early before the Gators take complete control.

  • #5 Alabama at #16 LSU

    7:00 pm CT on CBS

Alabama controls its own fate for the remainder of the season after Ole Miss dropped its second conference loss. The Crimson Tide will need to come out firing on all cylinders, especially offensively. Blake Sims has never played in an atmosphere like Tiger Stadium, so how he handles it will be crucial to their success. The defense is not facing anything special, but they do have to slow down the ground game if they want to keep LSU from scoring.

The Tigers' ability to score is the biggest question mark as they prepare Saturday's matchup. QB Anthony Jennings has not yet proven he can perform well in big time games. LSU knocked off Ole Miss thanks to a flawless defensive performance. If the defense falters, it does not appear that Jennings has the mechanics to lead his team to victory by himself. They will need to keep Sims rattled and try to keep Amari Cooper out of the endzone.

Both teams had bye weeks in preparation for what is easily the best matchup of the week in the SEC. Since Nick Saban arrived in Tuscaloosa, this game has turned into a pretty big rivalry that is usually decided in the fourth quarter. Will Alabama come ready to play or will their national title hopes die in Tiger Stadium?
