Gamecocks quarterback praises Alabama defense at SEC Media Days
If you're reading this on Tuesday, July 21, we're officially halfway through the SEC Media Days for the 2026 season. We've heard from several big-time programs, phenomenal coaches, and star players. Several of those coaches/players will have the task of trying to take down the Alabama Crimson Tide, including the South Carolina Gamecocks led by quarterback LaNorris Sellers.

Sellers is entering his fourth season as a member of South Carolina's program, with multiple years of starting experience under his belt. In both his second and third year in the program, Sellers was the starting quarterback when the Gamecocks faced off with Alabama. Both games came down to the wire, but neither went in favor of the Gamecocks.
Sellers was asked about what it would take to get over the hump against the Tide; his answer, while not entertaining, was exactly what his head coach Shane Beamer would want him to say: "Just staying true to our game plan, not letting our foot off the gas, and not getting too comfortable."

However, he was then asked what about Alabama stood out to him compared to other teams he's faced. Sellers not only showed more authenticity, but praised Alabama defensive coordinator Kane Wommack's defense, "I'll say that they're super physical, and they're usually never wrong, if that makes sense." The idea of a defense 'never being wrong' is all but a fantastic compliment to Wommack and his defense. The stats all but certainly back up Sellers' claim as well. In 2025, Alabama finished inside the top 15 in terms of scoring defense at the Power Four level. They also finished inside the top ten in 2024, Wommack's first year calling the defense.
With Alabama in position to start an inexperienced quarterback this season, the defense will need to fire on all cylinders early and often, and September 26th will be no exception. Especially with LaNorris Sellers lined up opposite of them for 60 minutes.
