Shavers to Transfer from Mississippi State

The Mississippi State Bulldogs have had a tumultuous month since beating the defending national champion LSU Tigers in the season opener. The Bulldogs have lost three straight games, the star running back Kylin Hill has left the team to prepare for the NFL Draft and several other Bulldogs have opted to enter the transfer portal.

Graduate transfer wide receiver Tyrell Shavers is one of several Bulldogs to recently enter the transfer portal with the intention of leaving Starkville. Shavers, transferred to Mississippi State this past summer after graduating from the University of Alabama.

Shavers joined the Bulldogs with hopes of utilizing Mike Leach's "Air Raid" offense to show NFL scouts his skill set after not seeing much playing time during his time at Alabama. In four games with Mississippi State this season, Shavers has hauled in nine receptions for 107 yards and one touchdown.

Shavers is joined by Jamari Stewart, Tre Lawson, Jalen Mayden, Garrett Shrader and others in leaving Leach's program in favor of the transfer portal. It was previously announced that talented running back Kylin Hill would also be leaving the program to prepare for the 2021 NFL Draft.

Due to the NCAA ruling that this season will not count against an athlete's eligibility, Shavers will likely be allowed to transfer to another program and maintain two seasons of playing time.

The 6-foot-6 receiver from Lewisville, Texas originally chose Alabama over over Arizona State, Auburn, Florida State and many other schools. Shavers reportedly was choosing between Mississippi State and Baylor after leaving Alabama.
