USM Analyst Says Southern Miss Will Have to Play Mistake Free against Alabama
The Tide's schedule marches on. After a long and hard-fought battle in The Swamp with Alabama coming out victorious over Florida, the Crimson Tide now looks to an evening matchup with the Golden Eagles.
While Southern Miss is not an SEC opponent, they are not going to walk into Bryant-Denny and play lackadaisical football. Tide 100.9's Gary Harris of the Gary Harris Show welcomed Southern Miss Analyst Lee Roberts to the program. Gary talked to Lee about his playing career at USM, but more importantly, the game between the two teams this Saturday.
The Golden Eagles starting quarterback, Trey Lowe, is injured. Backup QB Ty Keyes will go under center. Lee went into detail on how this affects the offense as a whole.
"Of course anytime your starter goes down you lose a lot, one you lose some confidence, you also lose all the reps you started back in spring with," Roberts elaborated. "(Keyes) He's deserved this opportunity...proud that Ty Keyes is our guy."
Southern Miss has a tall task in front of them, taking on the number one team in the country. When asked how the Golden Eagles will handle the Tide, Roberts was unsure.
"You know it is a challenge, but I think these guys know what they can do. Can they go in and compete and beat Alabama? I don't know." Lee continued. " This is a team that just wants to go get better...gotta have that same mindset this week."
One of the more famous players on the Southern Miss roster is Frank Gore Jr. The son of Frank Gore, he's one of the best players on the team. Lee talked about having him and his father being around the squad.
"Frank Gore is a competitor. He passed a lot of schools to get to Southern Miss." Lee went further in his analysis. "Frank Gore is a guy that is you gotta work behind."
