Stampede Loses Fifth Straight Game at Home Against Chelsea Friday Night
Paul W. Bryant loses their fifth straight game at home on Friday to the 6A Chelsea Hornets, 49-12.
The Stampede began the game with a botched snap that resulted in a fumble recovery by the Hornets on Bryant's 35-yard line, which led to a 20-yard touchdown by Chelsea's junior running back Chase Stracener, placing the Hornets up 7-0 after a successful PAT with 10:34 seconds left in the first quarter.
Paul W. Bryant attempted to respond with a drive of their own, which ended with a missed 35-yard field goal attempt. Chelsea responded with a 20-yard touchdown pass from Senior Quarterback Miller Braun to Senior Wide Receiver Caleb Durbin, putting the Hornets up 14-0 after the successful PAT with 5:23 left in the first quarter.
Paul W. Bryant head coach Christion Jones and the Stampede put on a decent offensive showing Friday night, with Bryant finally finding their identity and Stampede Senior Quarterback Javion Johnson leading some productive drives that, however, all ended in turnovers due to botched snaps the next play.
This appeared to be the theme of Paul W. Bryant's three fumbles caused by botched snaps in the first half, two of which occurred in the red zone; one of those two fumbles occurred inside the Hornets' 5-yard line following an impressive 80-yard reception by Junior running back Brandon Johnson Jr, which cost Bryant big time, with Chelsea capitalizing on each turnover with touchdowns, increasing the Hornets' lead to 21 at halftime.
The third quarter showed Paul W. Bryant finding their offensive identity, with the Stampedes having an impressive third quarter passing the ball with two scores that came from completions from Bryant's quarterback Javion Johnson who completed two passes for over 40 yards, one of which went 60 yards for a touchdown to Junior Wide receiver Cordario Spigner to get the Stampede their first points of the game, making the score 28-6 after the PAT attempt was blocked.
Bryant did not score again in the match following Junior running back Brandon Johnson Jr's 20-yard touchdown run, which made the score 35-12 after a failed two-point conversion with 5:11 left in the third quarter.
Paul W. Bryant was unable to stop the Hornets' dynamic running attack, with the Stampede giving up over 250 rushing yards to Chelsea Junior running back Chase Stracener, who also scored two touchdowns on the ground, one of which came early in the fourth quarter to put the Hornets up 49–12.
Players of The Game
For Chelsea, it has to be junior running back Chase Stracener, who had an amazing effort with two rushing touchdowns and over 250 rushing yards to help the Hornets win 49-12. My second choice is senior quarterback Miller Braun, who threw for more than 150 yards and three touchdowns to three different receivers.
Head coach of Paul W. Bryant, Christion Jones, can leave this game knowing that the Stampedes' main offensive players—Javion Johnson, who passed for over 150 yards and one touchdown—and Brandon Johnson Jr., who had one touchdown run of 20 yards and more than 80 receiving yards—are the players Bryant needs to center the offense around.
Paul W. Bryant falls to 0-5 on the season and will attempt to win their first game against (4-1) 6A Bessemer City (Bessemer, AL) on Friday, October 4th, 2024.
Chelsea's perfect record stands at 5-0, and they will attempt to add to it when the Hornets travel to face (2-4) 6A Chilton County (Clanton, AL) on Friday, October 4, 2024.
