The Rams Gift the Aggies First Loss of The Season
The Northside Rams traveled to Hamilton to take on the mighty Aggies. The Aggies were undefeated entering the matchup, while the Rams had one lost to Winfield but were coming off a big win over Gordo.
Both teams scored fast in their first possessions. Rams RB Jace Mcnutt scored the first touchdown of the game, giving the Rams a 6-0 lead until Aggies QB Matthew Coleman threw a touchdown pass to Brayden Loving on their first play and tied the game at 6-6. Northside took the lead back with a rushing touchdown from QB Braden Green.
The Rams started to take control in the second quarter with a 30-yard touchdown run from Mcnutt. The Aggies struggled to find the end zone after multiple false start penalties backed them up 23 yards. Hamilton tried to add points to the board before the half; however, more penalties backed them up, including unsportsmanlike conduct on coach Barry Peoples.
Despite being down 20 points at the half, the Aggies kept fighting and scored on their first play in the third quarter with another touchdown pass from Coleman to Loving. Turnovers and penalties continued to be the Aggies' enemy as they had the rest of their drives stall out. The Rams scored one final touchdown to seal the game 40-18.
The Rams finished the game with two more touchdowns from Green and Mcnutt. Mcnutt finished the game with 19 carries, three touchdowns and ran for over 50 yards. Head coach Chris Hilliker said he was proud of his team's performance despite the wet conditions.
"I thought we did a good job," Hilliker said. "We were a little bit sloppy, but of course the weather conditions had something to do with that. We turned the ball over tonight and we can't do that, but the kids worked hard and we are happy to get a region win on the road."
The Rams are on a bye-week this week but will face Fayette County at home on Oct. 1. The Aggies will try to rebound after their first loss of the season next week at Wellborn.
