Tide Takes Down Vanderbilt to Secure Series Win
The Alabama baseball team beat the No. 5 Vanderbilt Commodores 2-1 to secure the series win.
"Can't say enough about our guys, just the overall effort was just, so proud of them. We've been in a ton of those really tight games this year. And you know, we always say good teams win most close games. And you know, we've been in a bunch of those this year that haven't gone our way and today we went on took it and made it happen and I mean that's a really good series when so I was definitely proud of the guys," said Alabama baseball interim head coach Jason Jackson.
Right-handed pitcher Jacob McNairy started on the mound for the Crimson Tide. He pitched six innings, recording four hits, one run, one earned run, one walk, and seven strikeouts.
Vanderbilt got on the board first in the third inning after third baseman Davis Diaz hit an RBI double, however Alabama responded in the fourth inning after first baseman Drew Williamson hit a solo home run to tie up the game.
Right-handed pitcher Kade Woods came in for relief in the seventh inning. He pitched two innings, recording one hit, no runs, no walks, and three strikeouts.
The Tide took the lead in the eighth inning after catcher Mac Guscette hit the go-ahead home run, which ended up being the game-winning score.
Left-handed pitcher Alton Davis II came in to close the game in the ninth inning, recording one hit, one run, and one strikeout.
Vanderbilt attempted a comeback, loading up the bases in the bottom of the ninth but could not get a runner across.
"Our league is filled with great teams, right? I mean, top to bottom you can draw names out of a hat and anybody can get hot and go win the whole thing. But yeah, I think these guys know this already, but it just gives them a little bit more affirmation that hey man we, you know, we're right there. We're right there we're gonna be right there in the mix and if we keep on, you know, doing our thing and playing our games and I think we're going to be a tough team to handle going forward," said Jackson.
