Tough 2023 Home Schedule for Alabama Gymnastics
The Alabama gymnastics team isn't easing its way into the 2023 season under new head coach Ashley Johnston.
"We are super excited about our home schedule. From the very first meet to the end of the regular season, our home slate is stacked with great teams that will challenge us to our very best," Johnston said.
The Crimson Tide gymnastics team's five home meets feature five opponents that all finished last season in the top 25, three of which finished in the top 10. Three of the five opponents are SEC rivals as well.
Alabama opens its home schedule on Jan. 6 with Michigan State who finished ninth overall.
The reigning SEC Champion, Florida, travels to Tuscaloosa on Jan. 20.
In-state rival and Johnston's former team, Auburn, visits Coleman Coliseum on Feb. 3 for the gymnastics Iron Bowl.
LSU closes out the SEC home schedule on Feb. 24.
Alabama ends its home schedule with Boise State on March 10.
Alabama finished last season at No. 7 following a fourth place finish at the NCAA Championship Semifinals in the first of two sessions.
Johnston hopes this competitive slate of home meets gets fans excited for the season.
"Our fans have always been such a boost for our ladies, helping raise us to another level. Some of my fondest memories of my career include competing in front of a packed Coleman Coliseum, and we can't wait to see everyone in the stands this season," Johnston said.
The Crimson Tide may have a new head coach, but the message to the fans remains the same: Alabama gymnastics wants an electric home atmosphere.
