The Northridge Jaguars and senior quarterback Whitt Winfield stunned the 2020 4A state runner-up Gordo Green Wave to keep their season perfect at 6-0.

Gordo's senior quarterback, Tanner Bailey, shook off the first half jitters and drove the Green Wave offense down the field twice to take a 21-16 lead.

Late in the fourth quarter, Northridge head coach Mike Vickery drew up a designed run play for Winfield which led to a 71-yard rushing touchdown for the senior.

"I really closed my eyes and took off running," said Winfield.

"I look up and saw nothing but green grass. Saw a guy behind me and I just patted him on the back and took off."

On the opposite sideline was Bailey, a highly-touted, four-star Oregon commit with offers from Alabama, Auburn, and Georgia.

"I knew I had something to prove," said Winfield on the QB matchup. "I'm here to prove to anyone out here watching that I can compete with anyone in the city and the state."
