According to a press release on Wednesday, Alabama 2022 commit Karly Weathers is named 2021-2022 Tennessee Gatorade Player of the Year for women's basketball. For her senior season at Loretto High School in Loretto, TN, Weathers averaged 23.5 points, 6 rebounds, 4 assists and 4 steals per game through 30 appearances.

Weathers committed to the Tide in April of 2021, less than a month after securing Loretto its second state title in school history for women's basketball. In the same season, she was also named Tennessee's Class A Miss Basketball and had offers from Georgia Tech, Missouri and Florida State.

Weathers has three Tennessee all-state first-team selections (at the moment) and off the court, she was named Loretto's Homecoming queen for 2021-2022. She volunteers in her free time outside of school as a youth volleyball and basketball coach.

Alabama Women's Basketball finished 17-13 in the 2021-2022 regular season but is returning some role players for the coming year. If Weathers progresses to the speed of the college game in a short period of time, the combination of her, returning senior guard Brittany Davis and junior guard JaMya Mingo-Young should be a perimeter problem for Alabama's SEC opponents.

Karly's brother Ryan, 2017-2018 National Gatorade Player of the Year for baseball, is currently a rotational starting left-handed pitcher for the San Diego Padres.
