Week 15 Bama Pro of the Week: Jalen Hurts
Each week during the NFL regular season, I'll award one standout Alabama player of the week whose performance boosted his team to victory. The only criteria being his team must win. At the end of the season, I'll name the MVP and hand out a few other awards to recognize the excellence the Alabama Crimson Tide has present in the NFL.
With a league-best 55 (counting Jalen Hurts) active players under contract across 28 franchises, there are plenty of options to choose from. Here's this week's winner:
Jalen Hurts put on a clinic against the Washington Football Team Tuesday night, throwing for 296 yards on 77% completion percentage with three total touchdowns, getting the Philadelphia back to .500 and winning his third Bama Pro of the Week award, the most of all Crimson Tide alumni this season.
The Eagles fell 10-0 early but Hurts rallied his team to the goalline and punched in a QB sneak to tie the game at 10-10.
His second QB Sneak gave the Eagles a league they wouldn't relinquish and was good for his 10th of the season, the most by an Eagles quarterback all-time.
To extend the lead, Hurts hit Greg Ward with one of the best throws of his young career.
Hurts has had an up and down season, even Tuesday he turned the ball over twice. Still, his play has been stellar in spite of Philadelphia's many struggles. At the very least, with 24 total touchdowns and the Eagles arrogantly being in the thick of the playoff race, the Philadelphia front office should still look to lean on Hurts into the future.
Next week, Hurts and the Eagles will host the hapless New York Giants.
And now for our honorable mentions:
- Trevon Diggs, Cowboys: Four tackles and two pass deflections including an interception.
- Minkah Fitzpatrick, Steelers: 14 tackles and one fumble recovery.
- Tua Tagovailoa, Dolphins: 16-27 passing for 196 yards with two touchdowns to two interceptions and seven carries for 19 yards.
- Landon Collins, Washington: Six tackles, one interception and a fumble recovery.
- Jonathan Allen, Washington: Seven tackles and a sack.
