Week 18 Bama Pro of the Week: Julio Jones
Each week during the NFL regular season, I'll award one standout Alabama player of the week whose performance boosted his team to victory. The only criteria being his team must win. At the end of the season, I'll name the MVP and hand out a few other awards to recognize the excellence the Alabama Crimson Tide has present in the NFL.
With a league-best 55 (counting Jalen Hurts) active players under contract across 28 franchises, there are plenty of options to choose from. Here's this week's winner:
Julio Jones caught his first touchdown in 429 days, solidifying the Titans' lead over the Texans en route to clinching the No. 1 seed in the NFL Playoffs and his first Bama Pro of the Week Award.
Jones finished the game with five catches for 58 yards and the score. It was his most productive game for Tennessee since Week 2 against Seattle. Since then, Jones has battled hamstring and COVID issues that kept him off the field.
Jones played in 10 games this season, catching 31 passes for 434 yards and the lone score. Somehow, despite the absences of Jones, AJ Brown and Derrick Henry for most of the season, the Titans clinched home-field advantage and a BYE week in the 2021 Playoffs. All three of those players are expected to be fully available in two weeks to bolster a championship run in a very inconsistent AFC bracket.
And now for our honorable mentions:
- Josh Jacobs, Raiders: 26 carries for 132 yards and a touchdown with two receptions for 12 yards.
- CJ Mosley, Jets: 13 tackles.
- A'Shawn Robinson, Rams: Six tackles including a sack and a forced fumble.
- Dalvin Tomlinson, Vikings: Six tackles, two for a loss including a sack.
