Former Alabama linebacker Tim Williams even posted about the team's disappointments on X.

"Find players who want it. Who need it." Tim Williams wrote,

Does this mean that Saban hasn't been able to adapt to NIL and the transfer portal? And did the outcome of the Texas-Alabama game sour potential recruits to the Crimson Tide?

Rodney Orr of Tider Insider doesn't think so. He discussed the topic of recruiting Thursday afternoon on "The Game" with Ryan Fowler.

"I do think the offensive line has a chance to be really good," he said. Here are some of the positive notes Orr made:

  • Tight end Amari Niblack is becoming an incredible weapon
  • The team has a true freshman left tackle who's developing as a pass protector
  • Offensive lineman Seth McLaughlin's injury influenced the bad snaps, which can be fixed
  • Wide Receiver Kobe Prentice looked really explosive
  • Wide Receiver Jermaine Burton has had a good run

One of the main issues with the offensive line is that Orr doesn't think Milroe is confident in himself. "Not everything is his fault," he noted, "But I don't sense that [the players] are confident in him throwing the football."

As for the confidence of incoming recruits, Orr thinks Alabama will be fine. Although the 2024 class looks a little sparse, he's particularly excited about the 2025 class.

"They had a ton of kids here," he said. "From across the country, the top 10 in almost every position." And although they are a long way off, Orr noted that the school has already received some commits.

Fowler asked about the increasing number of 3-star players on the roster. Is this a strategy to recruit players who will be more loyal to Tuscaloosa and open to being developed?

"Well, I think some of the guys were under-rated," said Orr, "But they made their evaluation, not only on their game tapes, but what they see in person." And that's what matters to Orr. "I've seen them bring in guys that no one knew about," and see the talent in them.

And as for the players antsy to enter the transfer portal...

"I think theyr'e pretty good at valuing those guys anyway," Orr said. "They're pretty straight up with them on that."
