Work Begins for Alabama Football’s National Championship Matchup with No. 2 Clemson
Alabama football returned to practice in Tuscaloosa on Tuesday afternoon for the first time since the Tide’s 45-34 win over No. 4 Oklahoma in last Saturday’s College Football Playoff Semifinal at the Capital One Orange Bowl. The Tide spent two hours outdoors on the Thomas-Drew Practice Fields, working in spider pads and shorts.
The Tuesday workout was the Crimson Tide’s first in a string of six practices leading up to Alabama’s national title pairing with No. 2 Clemson. The two teams will meet at Levi’s Stadium in Santa Clara, Calif., for the 2019 College Football Playoff National Championship Game on Monday, Jan. 7. Alabama and Clemson are set for a 7 p.m. CT kickoff on ESPN with Chris Fowler and Kirk Herbstreit calling the game from the booth and Tom Rinaldi and Maria Taylor on the sidelines.
Monday’s game will be the 19th meeting all-time between the Crimson Tide and Tigers and the fourth in as many seasons – all coming in the College Football Playoff. Alabama holds the all-time advantage, 14-4, including a 2-1 mark in the Playoffs. The two teams last met in the 2018 CFP Semifinal at the Allstate Sugar Bowl on Jan. 1 in New Orleans, La., with UA posting a dominant 24-6 win over the Tigers inside the Mercedes-Benz Superdome.
