Lawson was a captain of the 2024 Alabama Football team and started 11 games at linebacker for the Crimson Tide before suffering a season-ending injury in Alabama's 24-3 loss to Oklahoma.

Lawson, a redshirt junior from Mobile, Alabama, earned third-team All-SEC recognition from the conference's coaches for his efforts in 2024. He was tied for ninth in the SEC in total tackles with 76, including 6.5 tackles for loss, four pass breakups, two sacks, one forced fumble, one fumble recovery, and one interception.

Lawson was a semifinalist for the Butkus Award for the second straight season.

He was a five-star linebacker prospect from Mobile Christian High School where he was ranked as the No. 29 overall player in the 2021 recruiting class. Lawson committed to Alabama in December 2019 over Auburn, LSU, and Georgia.

Lawson suffered a season-ending lower body injury during Alabama's 24-3 loss to Oklahoma in Norman in late September. Lawson may be limited to start the season for Alabama depending on the injury.
