Charles Scott Jr. is a 6-foot-5, 255-pound, three-star quarterback from Richmond, Virginia, who committed to Alabama on Friday, as reported by On3’s Chad Simmons.

Scott is a sophomore quarterback at Huguenot High School, where he is a two-sport athlete, also playing basketball. He excelled on the football field during his sophomore season, completing 63% of his passes for 3,594 yards and 41 touchdowns, while throwing only four interceptions. He also rushed for an additional 115 yards and eight touchdowns, according to his profile on 247Sports, helping lead his team to the third round of Virginia’s Region 4B playoffs.

The three-star quarterback chose Alabama over teams like Mississippi State, Georgia, and Florida State. He is ranked as the No. 34 quarterback, the No. 10 player in Virginia, and the No. 432 overall prospect in the 2028 class according to the 247Sports Composite Rankings.

Alabama offered the Richmond native exactly one month ago, on April 1.

Scott went into more detail about his decision to commit to the Tide when speaking with 247’s Brett Greenberg, saying, “Top-tier facilities, and they made it feel like home. There isn’t really too much to be said.” Scott also told Greenberg that he has been paying attention to DeBoer and his scheme since DeBoer's time at Washington.

This is a huge pickup for the Crimson Tide. With Scott still early in his high school career and two years remaining, he has plenty of time to improve. Right now, the three-star quarterback is very mature for his age, shows great pocket awareness, and does a terrific job staying calm under pressure. On Scott’s Hudl, you can see he resembles Michael Penix Jr. in some ways, with impressive arm strength and strong field awareness. He also demonstrates good placement, often picking up yards on throws across the field.

With two more years under the coaching of his father, Charles Scott, who is the head coach at Huguenot, it is possible the Tide could have another five-star quarterback for a fourth straight class, following Keelon Russel in 2025, Jett Thomalla in 2026, and Elijah Haven, who recently committed to the 2027 class.
