In a rather interesting conversation with the Atlanta Journal Constitution, five-star defensive tackle Montravious Adams told the newspaper that he was planning to attend Alabama until a last-minute official visit to Auburn changed his mind.

In the story, Adams cites his relationship with Rodney Garner as the reason he made the visit and eventually committed. Auburn hired Garner from Georgia to be part of the new coaching staff.

"A lot of people didn't know, but I was about to go to Alabama. It's just when I went back to Auburn for my last official, that's when I made up my mind about that it was where I wanted to be. But if I hadn't gone on that last official visit, I would probably be with Alabama right now."

The AJC never got an answer and might not have even asked about what Adams liked about Auburn, but he did explain why nearly ended up in Tuscaloosa.

“It’s got everything I need. The players don’t really get into any trouble there. They have great coaches. And I know if I could play the way I know I could with their coaching, most likely I’m going to be in the (NFL), which is where I want to be. Alabama is just a place where I could accomplish my goals.”

Most analysts didn't speculate about Adams ending up at Alabama so this information is a bit of a surprise. Read what else he had to say about the recruiting process.
