The Alabama coaching staff named six players of the week following the Crimson Tide’s 58-21 win at Tennessee last weekend in the annual ‘Third Saturday in October’ matchup between the two longtime rivals. Tua Tagovailoa and Jonah Williams on offense; Xavier McKinney and Quinnen Williams on defense; and Mike Bernier and Henry Ruggs III on special teams all earned the recognition for their efforts in Knoxville.

Tagovailoa strung together another impressive outing, this time against the Volunteers. The sophomore quarterback accounted for 312 yards of total offense and four touchdowns despite playing just 50 plays in the game. He completed 65.6 percent of his passes on 19-of-29 passing for 306 yards and four scores, highlighted by nine straight completions before exiting the game. Twelve of his 19 completions went for 10 or more yards, including his touchdown strikes of 77, 41 and 11 yards to go with a nine-yard completion for a score. Williams provided the protection for his signal-caller, grading out at a team-high and career-high 94 percent. He registered a team-leading six knockdown blocks as the Tide averaged 5.2 yards per carry on the ground, part of Alabama’s 545 yards of total offense. The junior left tackle did not surrender a sack or a hurry across his 66 plays from scrimmage and was perfect on all assignments.

McKinney, a sophomore, accounted for five total tackles with 1.5 for loss (-23 yards). His strip-sack in the first half resulted in a 22-yard loss and set up the Crimson Tide’s second touchdown of the afternoon. Williams dominated up front once again, accounting for four total tackles with one tackle for loss (-4 yards). Despite fighting double teams all day, the redshirt sophomore tackle finished with one quarterback pressure credited in the game and four overall by the Tide coaching staff following their evaluations. The duo helped limit Tennessee to just two offensive touchdowns and 31 rushing yards.

In his first career start, Bernier punted twice on the afternoon, both of which went for 41 yards to total 82 yards. Neither of the senior’s punts were returned on the day. Ruggs III made one tackle on kickoff coverage in addition to helping out on return duties in Knoxville. The sophomore wideout also contributed three catches for 65 yards and a touchdown on offense, one of four Alabama receivers to tally a scoring reception by day’s end.
