Who is Jack Hoffman? The name might not immediately ring a bell, but his story will.

Hoffman is the 7 year old suffering from brain cancer who has been adopted by the Nebraska Cornhuskers football team and made national news when he raced 69 yards down the field to for a touchdown in Nebraska’s annual Red-White spring scrimmage.

The image still plays in the minds of many: a small boy in his white pants, red Cornhuskers jersey, and 22 helmet (Nebraska running back Rex Burkhead, who befriended the boy wears the same number) wondering out onto the field of Memorial Stadium.  Over 60,000 rose to their feet as quarterback Taylor Martinez guided the boy into the offensive formation, then steered him down the field as Hoffman ran as fast as he could while members of each team ran right behind him.

Now the image will be commemorated by one of the most prestigious sporting card companies-Upper Deck.

“Jack is the type of inspirational athlete who absolutely deserves an Upper Deck rookie card,” said Chris Carlin, Upper Deck’s sports marketing manager in a release.

“Upper Deck does not want to risk Jack’s amateur status with the NCAA so the card we created will not be part of a mainstream trading card release. Jack had a larger than life moment on the field that day for Nebraska which is why Upper Deck is creating a limited number of promotional blow-up rookie cards for Jack to sign and use for charitable purposes. Upper Deck is proud to play a small role increasing awareness in Jack’s cause and we are excited to be a part of ‘Team Jack!’”
