Alabama Baseball Routed by Bulldogs
It was a rough night for Alabama Baseball as the Tide fell to the Mississippi State Bulldogs 13-3.
It all went south after the first inning for Alabama. Ian Petrutz got on first base, but Alabama couldn’t advance him. Then, in the bottom of the 1st inning, Hunter Hines for Mississippi State hit a three-run bomb to take a 3-0 lead over Alabama. In the 2nd inning, Mississippi State’s David Merson singled to the left, bringing in Ethan Pulliam to extend State's lead to 4-0. In the bottom of the 3rd inning, Hunter Hines homered to right field, giving the Bulldogs a 5-0 lead. Then Mississippi State had an RBI single by Johnny Long to make it 6-0.
As if things weren't already bad, they got even worse in the 4th inning, as Bryce Chance homered again to left center making it 7-0 Mississippi State. At this point, Alabama made a pitching change to Coulson Buchanan. On his 23rd pitch, he hits Connor Hujsak, and David Mershon scores to make it 8-0 Bulldogs. Three pitches later, Amani Larry hits a Grand Slam making it 12-0 Mississippi State.
The best inning of the night for Alabama was the top of the 5th. Gage Miller hit a fly out to right field and Evan Sleight scored from 3rd to put Alabama on the board, but it was still 12-1 Mississippi State. Justin Lebron doubled to right center, and Eblin scored from 2nd, making it 12-2 Mississippi State. Kade Snell singled to center field to allow Ian Petrutz to score to make it 12-3 Mississippi State. Mac Guscette reached on a fielder's choice, Hodo was thrown out at 3rd base and Bama left the bases loaded in the bottom of the 5th.
Mississippi State put one more on the board in the bottom of the 6th. In the end, Alabam was run-ruled 13-3. The Tide left 10 batters on base this evening in Starkville, which was the difference in the game. Alabama had 9 hits on the evening but only scored three runs. For Alabama, the offensive leaders were Gage Miller who went 2-3 with one RBI, Ian Petruntz who went 2-2, Justin Lebron who went 1-4 with a double and one RBI, and Kade Snell who went 1-4 with one RBI. Greg Farone Alabama’s Pitcher went only three innings with 74 pitches and gave up seven runs on seven hits, only three strikeouts, and hit two batters. As for Mississippi State, their offensive leaders were Hunter Hines who was 2-2 with two home runs and four RBIs, Amani Larry 2-3 with one homerun and four RBIs, and Bryce Chance who had one homerun with one RBI. Mississippi State’s starting pitcher, Khal Stephen threw 96 pitches with seven hits on three runs with six strikeouts. Alabama will try to even the series on Saturday at 4:00 pm CT.
The Final game of the series will be Sunday at 1:00 p.m. CT.
