Alabama Football Adds Georgia State as 2028 Season Opener
The Alabama Crimson Tide has added the Georgia State Panthers to its 2028 non-conference schedule, according to a release from the University of Alabama. In the release, it was announced that the Tide's matchup with the Panthers would be the home opener for the 2028 football season.

The Crimson Tide is 2-0 all-time against the Panthers, with the two matchups coming in 2010 and 2013. Alabama won the 2010 matchup 63-7 and won the 2013 matchup 45-3. The 2028 matchup with the Georgia State Panthers is scheduled for Saturday, September 2.
Georgia State is currently the fourth non-conference opponent Alabama is slated to play in the 2028 season, joined by:
Ohio State (Scheduled for Saturday, September 9)
UT Martin (September 16)
AT Oklahoma State (September 23).
With the SEC moving to nine conference games, the Crimson Tide currently has 13 opponents scheduled for the 2028 season. Alabama will need to drop one of the non-SEC teams currently on its schedule. Who could it be?
Alabama's matchup with Ohio State in 2028 is the second half of a home-and-home scheduled to start in 2027 when Alabama goes to Columbus, Ohio. There have been rumors that the game is getting canceled, but no official cancellation has been made.
Alabama's matchup with UT Martin is a single-game that the Tide added for its 2028 schedule. This game would likely be the easiest to cancel because it does not affect other seasons' schedules with home-and-homes.
Alabama's matchup at Oklahoma State in 2028 is the first half of a home-and-home, with the Cowboys slated to make the return trip to Tuscaloosa in 2029. Canceling this home-and-home gives Alabama a few years to find an opponent to fill the 2029 schedule.
