On Monday, the NCAA Baseball Selection Show announced that Alabama secured its first top-eight national seed since 2006, when the Crimson Tide earned the No. 4 overall seed. The team’s name was called early in the broadcast, marking a significant milestone for the program as they secured their fifth top-eight national seed in program history.

Alabama earned the seventh seed in the NCAA Baseball Tournament, granting the team the right to host both a regional and, if victorious, a super regional. The regional will take place from May 29th to June 1st at Sewell-Thomas Stadium, where Alabama will host Oklahoma State (two seed), the University of South Carolina Upstate (three seed), and Alabama State (four seed). The tournament follows a double-elimination format, with the winner advancing to a super regional. This marks the Crimson Tide’s first time hosting a regional at Sewell-Thomas Stadium since 2023.

Alabama has already faced Alabama State twice this season, winning both matchups. The first meeting resulted in a narrow 2-1 victory for the Crimson Tide on February 18th, followed by a dominant 13-4 win on March 4th, during which Alabama broke its single-game record for stolen bases.

The Crimson Tide has played Oklahoma State only once in school history, during the first round of the Clemson Regional in 2009. On that occasion, the Cowboys defeated Alabama 10-6.

Alabama was one of five SEC teams to earn a top-eight national seed and one of seven SEC teams to earn a national seed. The full list of SEC teams is provided below.

  • No.3 Seed- Georgia
  • No.4 seed- Auburn
  • No.6 Seed- Texas
  • No.7 Seed- Alabama
  • No.8 seed- Florida
  • No.12 seed- Texas A&M
  • No.14 Seed- Mississippi State

If Alabama wins its regional this weekend, it will face the winner of the Tallahassee regional, which features No. 10 seed Florida State, Coastal Carolina, Northern Illinois, and Saint John's. The victor of the Tallahassee regional will meet the Crimson Tide in the Tuscaloosa super regional for a best-of-three series.

This marks the third postseason appearance for the Crimson Tide under head coach Rob Vaughn. As a third-year coach, Vaughn aims to secure his team's first regional victory during his tenure.
