Alabama Baseball Signee Named Maryland Gatorade Player of the Year
Alabama Baseball’s 2025 class, currently ranked 11th in the nation and seventh in the SEC according to Perfect Game, is shaping into another solid class loaded with talent from top to bottom. The Crimson Tide has three signees who have won the Gatorade Player of the Year in their home states this season.

Will Rhines, a 6-foot-3, 200-pound shortstop from John Carrol High School in Bel Air, Maryland, became the third Alabama baseball signee from the class of 2025 to win Gatorade Player of the Year, with the shortstop joining Eric Hines (Alabama) and Luke Smyers (Virginia).
The talented shortstop had a fantastic season at John Carrol, recording seven home runs and 32 RBIs while maintaining a .420 batting average and a .612 on-base percentage. Rhine led the Bulldogs to a 30-win season and the Interscholastic Athletic Association State Championship this past season. According to Prep Baseball, he is the No.5 prospect out of Maryland in the 2025 class.
John Carrol’s head baseball coach, Darrion Siler, spoke highly of Rhine, who has played under the coach for the past four years. Siler said, “Will Rhine is a true dirt dog—he’s overcome incredible adversity and shown toughness, grit, and determination.” Silver added, “I’m so proud of the season he’s put together and the contributions he’s made to this program over the past four years.”
Alabama is getting a special player out of Rhines. The shortstop not only has a tremendous arm and an excellent batting average, but he is also a leader who wants to see everyone around him improve and puts in the work to make sure that happens. Siler says, “He’s one of the hardest-working kids I’ve coached with a razor-sharp focus on his development. He is a leader in our school community and on this team.”
Rhine committed to the Tide in December 2023, shortly after Rob Vaughn became the Crimson Tide's head coach after a successful tenure as the head coach of the Maryland Terrapins.
