Sammarco, a 6-foot-5, 260-pound tight end from Cincinnati, Ohio, spent two seasons with the Mountaineers before entering the transfer portal. He will have three years of eligibility remaining once he enrolls at Alabama.

Sammarco attended Anderson High School in Cincinnati, Ohio. He was originally rated as a three-star prospect coming out of high school, ranked as the No. 95 overall tight end and the No. 66 overall prospect in the 2024 recruiting class.

Sammarco caught one pass for four yards for West Virginia in 2024, but played in all 13 games for the Mountaineers in the 2024 season.

Sammarco held offers from West Virginia, Akron, Army, Bowling Green, Eastern Michigan, Kent State, Miami (Ohio), Montana State, Temple, Toledo, UConn, UMass, and Western Michigan out of high school.

Sammarco will provide depth to the Tide's tight end room that was decimated by injury during spring practice. Josh Cuevas and Marshall Pritchett exited spring practice early due to injuries, while Danny Lewis Jr. did not participate in any spring practice while recovering from offseason surgery. Alabama will get four-star tight end Kaleb Edwards in the summer when he enrolls at the Capstone.
