Alabama Fall Camp Day 3 Observations
Alabama Football continues through the dog days of Summer with day three of Fall Camp. The practice took place on Saturday, August 3. Here is everything I noticed on the third day of Alabama's practice:
The shoulder pads were on today, which meant more hitting than we had seen in the past two practices. Alabama's second-level defenders (linebackers and safeties) were working on a drill that focused on attacking from the bottom and lifting the ball carrier while wrapping up the tackle.
Don't mess up around Kane Wommack. He'll let you know immediately, as he did towards the end of the next clip when he, Maurice Linguist, and Colin Hitchsler worked with Alabama's safeties to identify the one-on-one and communicate it to the next level.
- Despite the (intense) heat at practice, multiple coaches were in sweatshirts and sweatpants.
When watching the defensive backs, the size of Keon Sabb was notable, as was he and Malachi Moore leading the safeties through drills. Depth means nothing when players are simply working through drills, but put a small pin in the fact Kameron Howard and Red Morgan were the next two in line.
We can now confirm - Ryan Williams is human, as he dropped a ball during one of the drills Alabama was working with its receivers on. However, his athleticism still jumps, as does Caleb Odom's size. Germie Bernard reminds me of Jermaine Burton.
Alabama's receivers were working on jump-ball scenarios, in which Caleb Odom had a significant advantage.
The practice intensity is still at a high level. I know it's only day three, but there's still good energy. The coaches are fired up and will tear into a player if they make a mistake, such as Wommack earlier, and Linguist as well.
Qua Russaw could be special for Alabama, as his size and athleticism are notable. He's projected around third on Alabama's Wolf depth chart, but with how strong the Tide's depth is at that position, could still see some significant playing time.
The defensive line is beginning to pass the eye test, led by LT Overton and Tim Keenan III.
The offensive line has not lost power, despite slimming down from last season.
