Alabama Football Practice Report: Day 1 of Fall Camp
AS the July sun bore down on Alabama football at the Thomas-Drew practice fields, Alabama head coach Kalen DeBoer led the Crimson Tide for the first practice of 2025 fall camp as Alabama prepares for year two under DeBoer.

While the depth chart is far from finalized, the return to the practice field (for the first time in an organized format since April) provided some insights into the health of many Crimson Tide stars who did not practice or were limited in spring ball due to injury. The media were allowed to watch roughly 20 minutes of the practice, held outdoors in 91-degree heat, and here were the observations we made:
Alabama's quarterback battle is (unspurprisingly) not settled yet. Ty Simpson, Austin Mack, and Keelon Russell (in that order) took reps at quarterback, where they practiced handing off to the running back and rolling out of the pocket to make a throw.
Health was a significant concern for the roster when we last saw the Tide on the practice field. I did not see anyone in a black non-contact jersey outside of the quarterbacks, including the tight ends, which was decimated by injury during spring practice. Marshall Pritchett, Jay Lindsey, Danny Lewis Jr., and Josh Cuevas were back wearing the Tide's red offense practice jersey. Freshman Kaleb Edwards was also on the practice field.
Speaking of health updates, Alabama linebacker Deontae Lawson was not wearing a black non-contact jersey, which is a good sign for his recovery from an ACL tear in Alabama's 24-3 loss to Oklahoma last season. Lawson was, however, wearing a rather large knee brace on his right knee. Lawson told us at SEC Media Days that he would be close to, if not 100% by August 30 when Alabama plays Florida State.
Here is an image we took at practice of Deontae Lawson sporting his knee brace.
Alabama cornerback Domani Jackson returned after missing spring practice due to injury, where he led the Tide's cornerback room in drills on Wednesday. Behind him were Utah transfer cornerback Cam Calhoun and sophomore Zabien Brown, with Dijon Lee, Chuck McDonald, and Red Morgan rounding out the cornerback room.
We will hear from Alabama head coach Kalen DeBoer at roughly 11:15 CT, so stay tuned to Tide 100.9 for more coverage of the Crimson Tide's first fall camp practice.
