Alabama senior punter JK Scott was selected to a list of 30 candidates for the 2017 Senior CLASS Award, it was announced on Thursday morning.

An acronym for Celebrating Loyalty and Achievement for Staying in School, the Senior CLASS Award focuses on the total student-athlete and encourages students to use their platform in athletics to make a positive impact as leaders in their communities.

In the classroom, Scott maintains a 3.116 grade point average in general business and is on pace to graduate in December after only three and a half years. He was selected to the SEC Academic Honor Roll each of the last two years and was tabbed to the league’s First Year Academic Honor Roll as a freshman.

Scott has consistently ranked near the top of the Crimson Tide roster for hours worked in the community each of his first three years at UA. He spends extensive time working with the Fellowship of Christian Athletes, speaking at local schools and working with youth groups. The senior also participates each year in the Athletics Department’s Halloween Extravaganza, efforts with Project Angel Tree during the holiday season and has volunteered his time at local hospitals on Tide’s bowl trips each of the last three years.

On the field, Scott has been a vital part of Alabama’s success during his four seasons on the gridiron. He consistently helps the Tide in the field position battle by flipping the field time after time. The Denver, Colo., native currently ranks second in career punting yards at UA with 9,339 and punt attempts with 204. In 2017, Scott has not had a punt returned and dropped 10 of his 15 boots inside the 20-yard line with only one touchback.

To be eligible for the award, a student-athlete must be classified as an NCAA Division I FBS senior and have notable achievements in four areas of excellence: community, classroom, character and competition.

The 30 candidates will be narrowed to 10 finalists midway through the regular season, and those names will be placed on the official ballot. Ballots will be distributed through a nationwide voting system to media, coaches and fans, who will select one candidate who best exemplifies excellence in the four Cs of community, classroom, character and competition. Along with the winner, the 10 finalists will be award Senior CLASS Award first- or second-team honors.

This year’s winner will be announced during the football bowl season in early January.
