Alabama Infielder to Undergo Surgery
TUSCALOOSA, Ala. — Alabama head coach Rob Vaughn provided an update on the injury status of infielder Garrett Staton following Alabama's 15-1 victory over Alabama State.
Staton exited Tuesday night's win over Middle Tennessee State in the first inning after taking a pitch to the hand.
Vaughn confirmed the suspicion that Staton broke his finger. The infielder is set to undergo surgery tomorrow morning; his timetable to return is not official.
"We still don't know how much time. Garrett's got a surgery tomorrow. He did break his finger. He's going to have surgery first thing in the morning, and then from there, we'll have a better idea of a timeline once that goes through there. Hopefully, some of that they won't know 100% until they get in there tomorrow." Vaughn stated on Staton's injury status, "So, he's gonna go in there tomorrow and get that knocked out. Obviously, you hate it for him because he's playing elite level baseball right now but also as an older guy. He's a senior. He's in a great mental place right now, as good as you can be after something like that. Understanding that, hey, this is what has been presented to me. Does it suck? Yeah, it really sucks. But at the end of the day, he'll have surgery tomorrow, we'll get this thing fixed and he'll be on the road to get back as soon as he can."

Without Staton, the Crimson Tide have shifted Jason Torres to third and Brennen Norton at second, with Will Hodo and Justin Lebron staying at their typical position. A lineup they have trotted out prior to Staton's injury.
Next, Rob Vaughn & Co. will travel to Jacksonville, Fla., to participate in the Jacksonville College Baseball Classic. The Crimson Tide's first pitch of the weekend is on Friday against the Coastal Carolina Chanticleers at 5 p.m. CT. Tide 100.9 will publish a weekend recap on Monday following the tournament, as we will do following all of Alabama's series away from The Joe.
