Alabama MBB Roster Rundown: Mark Sears
As we approach November 4, when Alabama will start its 2024-2025 campaign against the UNC Asheville Bulldogs in Coleman Coliseum, we will break down the thirteen scholarship players on the Crimson Tide roster, both new and old.
First up, the leader behind Alabama's Final Four run just four months ago, point guard Mark Sears.
Since transferring into the program two years ago from Ohio University, Sears has been one of the best and most consistent contributors for Nate Oats and his staff.
In his first season in Tuscaloosa, Sears posted 12.9 points and 2.6 assists per game to help lead the Crimson Tide to an SEC double crown and a Sweet Sixteen appearance. The former Ohio Bobcat earned second-team All-SEC honors for the 2022-2023 season.
Last season, Sears was one of the best players in collegiate basketball. The Muscle Shoals, Ala., native earned second-team All-American honors from several outlets while also being named to the All-SEC first team. Sears also set multiple program records last year, breaking the program record for most points scored in a single season with 797, most 20-point games in a season with 26, and the most free throws made in a single season with 198.
Additionally, the 6-1 guard became the first Division 1 player in 31 years to rack up 795 points, 150 rebounds, 145 assists, and 95 three-pointers in an entire season.
After declaring his intentions to return to the Crimson Tide on May 29 via social media, Alabama vaulted into legit title contender status.
Now, entering his third season at the Capstone and his final year of collegiate eligibility, Sears is primed for another All-American caliber season with the Crimson Tide.
