Alabama Men’s Basketball Rolls Past South Carolina, 76-62
The Alabama Men’s Basketball team stormed out of the gates early to snatch the lead 3-2 lead 1:34 into the game and never looked back, topping South Carolina, 76-62, Tuesday night at Coleman Coliseum. The Crimson Tide had a total of nine players in the scoring column to propel the squad past the Gamecocks to capture its second conference win of the season.
Freshman John Petty led all Crimson Tide scorers with 15 points while junior Donta Hall added 13 points to go along with seven rebounds that helped keep South Carolina off the boards. Sophomore Daniel Giddens scored 11 points on a perfect 5-of-5 shooting performance while junior Avery Johnson Jr. added 10 points on 2-of-4 shooting from beyond the arc.
Alabama (10-6, 2-2 SEC) shot 58.8 percent from the field (30-of-51) and registered its highest shooting percentage in a half of 63.6 percent (14-of-22) since Nov. 24, when the Tide knocked down 60.0 percent of its shots in the first half against BYU.
Furthermore, Alabama’s bench also turned in a huge performance, outscoring the Gamecock bench, 35-16.
Alabama will next travel to Baton Rouge, La., to square off against the LSU Tigers in the only meeting between the two teams this year. The contest will tip at 7:30 p.m. CT and be televised on SEC Network.
