Tuscaloosa, Ala. – There’s no doubt that Kalen DeBoer and Ryan Grubb are enthusiastic about the future of the quarterback room. They have junior Ty Simpson, who, as of right now, would start under center for the Tide if they played a game tomorrow, five-star 2025 signee Keelon Russell, and redshirt sophomore Austin Mack, who followed DeBoer from Washington when he took over as head coach of the Crimson Tide in January of 2024.

Although Alabama's quarterback room appears to be set for the future, coaches DeBoer and Grubb are still actively searching for their ideal player. Over the past month, Alabama has hosted several quarterbacks for visits, including four-star recruit Jett Thomalla, who visited on May 30, and four-star Matt Ponatoski, who visited on June 6. Most recently, four-star quarterback Bryson Beaver, a 6-foot-3, 200-pound rising senior from Murrieta, California, visited the campus this past weekend. He impressed the Tide coaching staff and received an offer during his visit, according to On3.

Beaver is the second quarterback that Alabama offered last week. On Wednesday, June 11, the Tide extended an offer to Tayden Kaawa, a three-star quarterback from Utah.

On3 has the California native ranked as the No. 55 quarterback, No. 77 player from California, and the No. 855th overall prospect in the 2026 class. In his Junior season at Vista Murrieta, he threw for 3,214 yards with 33 touchdowns and six interceptions while completing 66.4% of his passes, according to 247 Sports.

According to 247’s Director of Scouting, Andrew Ivins, his scouting report on Beaver is a “Confident passer with surprising escape powers willing to challenge both man and zone coverage at all three levels. Looks the part with an athletic frame that’s pushing 6-foot-3, 200 pounds. Can drive the football with both pace and touch to the intermediate level and win with anticipatory throws. Effective on sprint/roll outs as he has proven to be rather accurate on the move and will drop the elbow to generate torque. Finds ways to get out of sacks and will extend plays with his creativity as he spins away from defenders. Can get caught trying to do a little too much at times, but a hunt-or-be-hunted mindset can be hard to find in a young signal caller. Needs to improve as a deep-shot taker and keep progressing as a decision-maker, but should be viewed as a late-bloomer that has the tools to eventually emerge as a trusted starter on Saturdays.”

Beaver committed to Boise State on April 19 before decommitting on Thursday, June 12, after receiving an offer from Oregon. Beaver currently has 13 offers, with the Crimson Tide being the most recent school to extend an offer to the rising senior. Ole Miss is also on Beaver’s list of offers with the four-star quarterback visiting Oxford on June 14, a day before his visit to the Capstone. Lane Kiffin’s squad is projected as a favorite to land the four-star quarterback out of California, with On3’s Recruiting Prediction Machine giving Ole Miss a 44.9% chance of landing Beaver while the Tide has a 39.3% chance.

Following receiving his offer from Alabama this past weekend, Beaver told On3’s Steve Wiltfong that the Tide’s offer “is very special” to him. The Tide is in a solid spot to land the talented and underrated quarterback from California, who will be competing in the Elite 11 finals on June 17-19 at Mira Costa High School in Manhattan Beach, California.

Alabama will prepare for a massive recruiting week this week. The Tide is expected to host 17 prospects from the 2026 class, four of whom are five stars. As of when this article is published, the Crimson Tide isn’t expected to host any more quarterbacks. This week is Alabama’s last weekend of hosting prospects, with the Dead Period starting on June 23 and lasting until July 31.
