Quarterback Jalen Milroe was named as a semifinalist for the Maxwell Award.

This morning, Milroe was named a semifinalist for the Maxwell Award, presented annually to the best player in college football as voted on by the media. Mark Wolpert, Executive Director of the Maxwell Football Club, announced the 2024 semifinalists for the 88th Maxwell Award.

Last year's Maxwell Award winner was Washington quarterback Michael Penix Jr., who was selected eighth overall by the Atlanta Falcons in the NFL Draft.

Former Crimson Tide players to win the award in the past include Bryce Young, DeVonta Smith, Tua Tagovailoa, Derrick Henry and A.J. McCarron.

This year’s semifinalists feature candidates from six conferences, including five from the SEC and three each from the Big Ten and ACC. The nominees include 10 quarterbacks, five running backs, and one wide receiver/athlete:

In Alabama’s recent win at Death Valley, Milroe completed 12 of 18 passes for 109 yards with a QBR of 99.3 and added 185 rushing yards with four touchdowns on 12 carries.

So far this season, Milroe has 2,046 passing yards, 13 touchdowns, and a QBR of 85.7, with standout performances against Georgia, Tennessee, and Vanderbilt.
