Wednesday was a big day on the recruiting scene for both the Alabama men’s basketball team and the Crimson Tide football program.

The day began around noon when Nick Saban landed his fourth commitment of the 2014 recruiting class in Shaun Dion Hamilton, a 6-foot-1, 230lbs linebacker from Montgomery’s Carver High School. He is currently listed as an ESPN 150 Watch List.

“He’s going to be on ESPN 150 guy, probably top 100 guy.  He picked Alabama over Auburn and Tennessee, a bigger guy, shorter at 6-foot-1, but about 235-240lbs.  However, his film is off the charts-reminded me a little bit of Reuben Foster’s film to be honest” said ESPN Tide Nation’s Greg Ostendorf. “He’s a good pickup, fourth commitment and first linebacker of the class and linebacker I think is a position of need in this class so it’s a good pickup for Alabama.”

Hamiltonjoins defensive backs Chris Williams and Kalvaraz Bessent ofCamdenCountyHigh Schoolin Kingsland Georgia andNorthridgeHigh School’s Bo Scarborough asAlabama’s current 2014 commitment.  Offensive guard Bradley Bozeman will also count toward the 2014 class a greyshirt.

Shortly after, the announcement was that Guard Ricky Tarrant, a two-time all-conference performer from Tulane University, and junior college standout Algie Key have signed with UA to continue their careers at the Capstone.

“They got a couple of good players here. Ricky Tarrant surprised me a little bit when I found out he was going to transfer. He’s very similar to Trevor Releford, he likes to get his own shot and score which is something this team needs, and he’s a solid pickup. Ostendorf added.

Then Algie Key is a two-time JUCO All-American, a guard about 6-3, 6-4 or so.  He’s not necessarily known for his shooting ability, but he’s a slasher and he can score.  He’s a guy that can help the offense by getting to the rim and getting to the free throw line-he’s very good at the free throw line.”

The duo joins early signees Jimmie Taylor (Greensboro, Ala./Greensboro HS) and Shannon Hale (Johnson City, Tenn./Christ School) as the newest members of the Alabama men’s basketball team.
