The University of Alabama’s rowing team opens the 2022 season ranked 15th in Division 1 by the Pocock Collegiate Rowing Coaches Association Poll after finishing last season ranked 13th. The 15th ranking is one spot higher than they opened last season which ended with the team’s first ever berth in the NCAA Championships.

Alabama is the only SEC school besides Tennessee (18) to receive recognition in the preseason poll. No other SEC schools even received votes.

Expectations are high for the team this season as fourth year head coach Greg Putyrae was named the regional coach of the year by the CRCA and his staff was named the regional coaching staff of year. Last season, Alabama was able to climb as high as the 7th spot in the Division 1 rankings.

The Tide crew team will kick off its season in Clemson on February 26th before coming back to Title Town to race against Eastern Michigan on the Black Warrior River on March 5th.

This past fall, the team concluded its season against Clemson on the Black Warrior River.  The Tide A team won the Pairs race, and the Tide B team took the win in an intra-squad Fours race. The freshman and novice team looked extremely promising and came in a close second place.

"It was awesome seeing our novices race for the first time having just learned to row within the last two months. All the crews handled the challenging headwind for the 5k and gained some valuable experience racing in the 1,500s.”

Be sure to head down to the Tuscaloosa Riverwalk this spring to support the Crimson Tide Rowing team.
