Alabama's running backs will face an increased workload in the 2025 season, with Jalen Milroe (12.9 rushing attempts per game) departing for the NFL. The running back room will see a drastic increase in carries per game, so if Alabama wants fresh legs for a possible playoff run, the Tide will need the running backs behind incumbent starter Jam Miller to step up to the plate.

Kalen DeBoer mentioned three players by name when asked about the running back battle behind Jam Miller, as they compete for playing time.

"You've got Rich Young, Daniel Hill coming back also. I feel like those guys are healthier than they probably ever were last season throughout the year," DeBoer said. "And then Dre. Dre Washington. I thought he had a really nice practice today. You can see a new guy that's come in and you're seeing the install a second or third time, from spring, summer to fall and how, just like we were talking about with the quarterback position, how it is clicking more. So he's got himself right in the mix there for sure as we kind of narrow down.

"There's skillsets and different things that each guy brings, body types are a little bit different, but in the end, it's not like someone is so much different to where it affects who's in there. We're just teaching them all the offense. Especially when we get into the padded and physicality and tackling pieces, that's a big part of it is breaking tackles, being able to get in there to protect for the quarterback and do a great job of it. Really, they're all competing, but that's really where it's at with those guys. They're all doing a good job."
