Alabama Softball Claims Top Seed in NCAA Tournament
The Alabama Crimson Tide will be playing in front of its home fans at Rhoads Stadium after claiming the No. 1 overall seed in the NCAA Tournament on Selection Sunday. Despite losing to Texas in the SEC Tournament Championship game, the Crimson Tide's 49-7 overall record and 19-5 record in conference play were enough for Patrick Murphy and his team to claim the top seed for the 2026 softball tournament.

The Tuscaloosa regional will not only feature the hometown Crimson Tide, but will also welcome USC Upstate, Belmont University, and Southeastern Louisiana. If the Crimson Tide can win their regional, Alabama would then host Superregionals next weekend for a chance to go to the Women's College World Series in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. It's a venue Alabama should be familiar with, as the Tide has made the WCWS 15 times in program history, but has been absent from softball's biggest stage for the last two seasons.
Alabama's first matchup will come against USC Upstate, which finished with a 36-21 overall record and a 12-6 record in conference play. USC Upstate won the Big South Softball Conference Tournament with a 12-2 victory over Winthrop on Saturday, May 9.
Alabama's first game against USC Upstate will be on Friday, May 15, at Noon CT at Rhoads Stadium in Tuscaloosa. The Regionals are double-elimination, so even if Alabama falls to the Spartans, the Crimson Tide still has a chance to work its way back into the bracket. If Alabama defeats USC Upstate, then it will play the winner of Belmont and SLU on Saturday, May 16, at 2:00 p.m.
Tickets for the Tuscaloosa Regional are now on sale. You can purchase tickets by clicking here.
