
Alabama Sweeps Missouri Behind 12-Run Explosion
TUSCALOOSA, Ala. — No. 18 Alabama (34-10, 11-9) defeated Missouri (13-30, 0-21) in 12-1 run-rule fashion Saturday evening to complete the series sweep. Alabama starter Zane Adams earned his sixth win of the season, tossing all seven innings, only allowing five hits and one earned run while striking out five.
Following a quiet first inning, the Crimson Tide exploded for eight runs in the second inning.
Brady Neal kicked things off in the second for the Crimson Tide with a leadoff double, followed by a Garrett Staton single to put runners on the corners for Will Hodo. Hodo then promptly ripped a 2-2 pitch to right field to take a quick 3-0 lead.
With zero outs in the inning, Alabama continued to cause damage —the following at-bat, Jason Torres bounced a baseball off the pavement of Second Avenue to take a 4-0 lead for the Crimson Tide.
Coleman Mizell got hit by a pitch on a 2-0 count to put a runner on for Bryce Fowler, who promptly tattooed a 1-0 pitch to right field to extend the Crimson Tide's lead to 6-0.
Alabama added two more runs, both via doubles from Kade Snell and Richie Bonomolo Jr., to take an 8-0 lead heading into the top of the third.
Missouri's Mateo Serna ambushed a first pitch fastball to cut the Crimson Tide's lead to 8-1, the lone run of the afternoon for the Tigers.
The Crimson Tide added two more runs in the bottom of the third thanks to a pair of RBI singles from Snell and Bonomolo Jr to extend the lead to 10-1.
In the bottom of the fourth, Will Hodo launched a solo shot to right center field to put Alabama in run-rule territory. 11-1, Alabama.
Neal added insurance in the fifth with an RBI single to score Snell.
Zane Adams protected the Crimson Tide's lead with a dominant seven-inning performance to send the Alabama faithful home early with a 12-1 win in seven innings to sweep Missouri.
Alabama returns to action in Nashville next weekend for a weekend date with the Vandy Boys.
